The Republican Party's program, encapsulated in the letter of the prospective Republican write-in candidates (Oct. 17), is brutally disingenuous. Many of the victims of abortion are severely disabled babies. As the sister of a woman with Down Syndrome, I'm well aware of how much expensive public assistance is necessary to give very disabled people a good life.
Likewise, how is the "empowerment of education" achieved without giving teachers a high, professional-level salary, and excellent infrastructure and implements?
As for "self-reliance," it's an American myth best relegated to the dustbin along with Christopher Columbus.
