Setting Priorities in Alexandria

The new City Council began prioritizing a roadmap for its 2019 activities at a retreat on Saturday, Jan. 26. These overall weighted scores indicate the council collective priorities, based based on the individual council members' priority rankings, in three categories: (1) Which of the city government's 35 departments, and which of their many initiatives and areas of work, are council most interested to delve into? (2) Which outside agencies, and which of the city's more than 70 citizen advisory boards and commissions, do council most want to meet and plan with? (3) What policy areas do council want to focus on? The council's priorities by theme were, in descending order: economic development, education, housing affordability, infrastructure, environment/sustainability, racial and gender equity, transportation (the last four tied).
