If you are a senior who might benefit from technological assistance to help you live a more enriched life, there are technologies out there. It can be stressful to get your electronics to work for you and finding the right technologies can be overwhelming, but there is help to get you set up and feel comfortable using your chosen technologies.
Senior Services of Alexandria’s June 10 Speaker Series is about “Senior Technology.” Participants will hear from local experts on what technologies are available and how easy they are to use.
InSight Memory Care will talk about how music therapy can help those suffering from memory loss engage in the world about them. Participants will also hear from Virginia Assistive Technology System about technologies available to individuals with disabilities and age-related health conditions that will allow them to enjoy their optimal level of independence and to live in the least restrictive environment.
Digital Fairy Dust will discuss what social media technologies are right for you to stay connected with loved ones and getting the help you need to set up your technologies to work for you. A representative from Virginia Hospital Center will discuss the Philips Lifeline Medical Alert System. Their Senior Health Department manages and maintains the equipment, and they have some exciting new features for this program that enhance their ability to help people remain safely in their homes.
The June 10 event is taking place at the Beatley Central Library, 5005 Duke Street in Alexandria. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. with the program beginning at 10 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. This event concludes the 2014-2015 Speaker Services. Senior Services will kick off its 2015-2016 with Senior Law Day cosponsored by the Alexandria Bar on October 17 at the First Baptist Church on King Street. This year’s theme is “Family Law and the Importance of Planning Early and Often.”
