Dreary skies couldn't dampen the spirits of more than 3,000 runners who took to the streets of Virginia and Maryland Oct. 7 in the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon, won by Kenyan Samuel Ndereba in 65 minutes and 15 seconds with American Kellyn Johnson leading the women in 1:13:24.

Murray and Fred Berman purchased the iconic Potomac “Cheers” bar — Hunter’s Inn — 10 years ago in October 2002. To celebrate their 10th anniversary, the Bermans have elected to donate 15 percent of their profits on Wednesday, Oct. 24 to the non-profit “Living with Childhood Leukemia.”

“Something about Lake Anne and music go together,” said Reston resident and Lake Anne Jazz Festival co-coordinator Eve Thompson. Saturday was the Sixth Annual Lake Anne Jazz Festival. Thompson along with Mykle Lyons, a Reston resident and founder of the Mykle Lyons Trio, started the festival out of love for music and for Lake Anne Plaza, said Thompson.
