The Miracle League of Alexandria held its 14th annual tribute to First Responders Sept. 6 at the Nannie J. Lee Recreation Center.

“Sept. 11 is a very difficult day for our country,” said Sheriff Sean Casey. “But we’ve grown from it and the support that we’ve gotten as first responders from people like Mac [Slover] and the community makes it easy to do our jobs every day and not think twice that if we have to again we would risk our lives to protect all of you.”

The game was in tribute to the city’s police, fire and rescue and sheriff’s department personnel.

“Sept. 11 is a day to remember extraordinary heroes often disguised as ordinary people,” said Miracle League president Mac Slover. “Even though we are all haunted by the brutal and selfish attacks of 9/11, we are proud to be an American. Today we say thank you to our first responders who risked their lives and remember those who lost their lives for our country. All those individuals are remembered and honored today.”
