In “City’s Wise Investment,” [letter to the editor, July 23-29, Gazette Packet], the writer indicated that the City of Alexandria’s debt is “not an issue.” Of course it is not a current issue, since Alexandria has revised its debt guidelines recently to accommodate a $35 million budget deficit that would have otherwise required significant adjustments.

Two weeks ago, my letter was published in the Gazette criticizing Del. Scott Surovell (D-44) for the posting on his blog in which he called upon Gov. Robert McDonnell to resign in light of the allegations concerning gifts he received from the CEO of a Virginia company. In my letter, I took no position concerning the morality of the situation, only concentrating on the fact that the investigation was not complete and on the inference that Delegate Surovell's comments were politically partisan in nature.

Last evening, Monday, July 22, I went with our Ugandan guest, Tom Kitandwe Kisolo, to our local McDonald on the corner of George Mason Drive and Wilson Boulevard here in Arlington for a coffee and conversation, and stayed till 11 p.m. I was tired when I came home, went to bed, got up this morning and looked everywhere for my wallet. It was missing. I was sure I had brought it home. After searching everywhere, I decided to pass by the McDonald just to check if anyone had seen it.
Why Churchill Road II
To the Editor: After reading Gina Manning’s letter to the editor in the Sept. 25 edition [“Why Churchill Road?”], I am prompted to express my appreciation for the Connection’s coverage of Churchill Road Elementary School and other area schools. In an era when newspapers are working with reduced staffs and resources, we are fortunate to receive a weekly newspaper that features local news including updates of our area schools.
