Alexandria Column: Enter ‘Young at Art’ Exhibition

30th annual juried art show for artists 55-plus.

Young at Art will celebrate its 30th anniversary this October at the Durant Arts Center in Alexandria. Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA) and the Goodwin House Foundation are co-sponsoring this event, which showcases the talented works of senior artists in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Artists aged 55-plus, may submit their art to make this anniversary year’s exhibit the best one yet. The “Call for Art” includes a variety of art types, including oil, acrylic, and watercolor painting, ceramics, sculpture, digital composition, pastels, stained glass, and mixed media. Chris Haggarty from Marymount University will serve as this year’s juror.

Artists are asked to bring their art works along with a completed application and entry fee of $20 to the Durant Arts Center on Tuesday, Oct. 4 between 10 a.m. and noon. The entry fee of $20 covers up to three pieces of art, and the art will be judged the same day. Art selected for the exhibition must remain on exhibit until Nov. 18. Art may be priced for sale, if the artist wishes to do so. Works of art not chosen for the exhibition must be picked up on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

A “Meet the Artists” reception and presentation of awards will be held on Thursday, Oct.20 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Durant Arts Center. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three pieces of art.
