Two full time positions open immediately:
We’re looking for a full-time assistant editor to help our team with all aspects of our award-winning news coverage, including web, print and social media. Seize the opportunity to learn from top editors while expanding our visual storytelling, bringing digital first skills and attitude.

Must be a prolific, fluent, accurate writer, rewriter and researcher with knowledge of AP style and clean copy. Self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively with strong organizational skills, external and internal customer service skills, high productivity, attention to detail and drive to make our community content the best and most comprehensive in the region.

Unusual opportunity to join a news organization in transition and leave your mark through leadership. Engage and manage social media accounts. Generate local content daily for web, print, social media, email newsletters, including breaking news, entertainment listings, crime reports, business briefs, photo galleries, etc. Ensure each paper is ruthlessly local and the top source of local information. Mine incoming email and internet for news, ideas, events, profile ideas that provide leads to coverage that set us apart. Community engagement: Continuously seeking new sources of local information, encourage and facilitate submissions from community. Curate fascinating local links from reputable sources. Copy editing, fact checking, page design. Collaborate with editors and reporters on content, breaking news, special features and editions and more.

Our offices are in Old Town Alexandria walking distance to the King Street Metro. Free parking. Health insurance at 90 days. Two weeks paid vacation plus additional time off around the holidays. Option to work from home or other location at least one day a week on average.
